Moving to the beat!

It took me 2 days to figure this out, but it was worth it. The geometry is animated to the amplitude of my song.

Dan Flavin

Dan Flavin was an American artist who has worked mainly with fluorescent light. Flavin first showed an interest in fluorescent light in 1961, the same year he began to work on his "Icons" series. In the "Icons" series, incandescent and fluorescent blubs are attached to shallow, square box forms, often made of various materials such as wood, Formica, or Masonite. In 1963, Flavin began working with fluorescent light alone, as seen in his Diagonal of Personal Ecstasy (the Diagonal of May 25, 1963), where Flavin positioned a fluorescent light at a diagonal on a gallery wall.

I really like the idea of the reflection on the floor, it gives a depth to the image and I will consider using this method in my own animation.

Electronica Music Video

I decided to do my animation in a music video style. Phil has sent me some interesting examples of how music interacts with animation. I loved the idea, and decided to use it. I have been searching for the right track that would be royalty free but, couldn’t find anything suitable, so I went into GarageBand and tried to make my own, but as I have never used it before I couldn't get the quality I wanted. I was thinking of other options and the only thing I had left to do is to find an artist that would let me use his music. I emailed an artist from Rival Consoles who’s music perfectly fits into my theme. The next day I got a reply from him saying that he’s into animation too and it’s ok for me to use it.

This is the track that I chose to use. Rival Consoles official website

This is an example of a music video, in which style I want to do my animation.

Influence Maps

Influence Map Neon Lights

Dale Chihuly

Dale Chihily is a genius artist who makes glass sculptures. I totally fell in love with all his creations. The organic shapes and bright almost neon colours make them unique. I think that the sculptures on the black background are particularly beautiful, the dark surroundings makes the sculptures stand out more.  He is definitely a very inspiring  character, and I would like to make my animation in his style.

Cell Concept Art

Commision: Cell division

When I was doing research I found a website with videos of different cell divisions. I really liked this one because it clearly shows the process, and the movement of the cell. Its very interesting and useful, I will definitely use this bit of information in my animation.

Mitosis is the process by which a eukaryotic cell separates the chromosomes in its cell nucleus into two identical sets, in two separate nuclei. It is generally followed immediately bycytokinesis, which divides the nuclei, cytoplasmorganelles and cell membrane into two cells containing roughly equal shares of these cellular components. Mitosis and cytokinesis together define the mitotic (M) phase of the cell cycle—the division of the mother cell into two daughter cells, genetically identical to each other and to their parent cell.

I really like this animation, and it gave me an idea of doing a cell division of a fertilised egg which would not only show the cell division in detail but would show how the division started and where it came from.
